What we do and our Programs
Partner: Girl First Fund (GFF)
Project: Strengthening systems and girl’s leadership capacities to respond to child marriage and early unions.
Number of beneficiaries: 500
This project aims at ending child marriage in all its forms in Rubindi sub-county Mbarara District south western Uganda. This project is funded by Girl’s First Fund (GFF). YFC has empowered 100 young women and girls as community champions/activists and strengthen capacities of 30 elected women council chairpersons with knowledge and tools to respond and prevent child marriages in their communities. The 100 girls’ rights activists currently have successfully engaged in effective advocacy and girls’ leadership to increase agency among girls to change the social norms, attitudes and practices that fuel child marriages. 54 girls have been rescued from child marriages and 100 girls have been taken back to school.
Adolescent girls education and empowerment
Girls Education is a community-based initiative dedicated to ensuring vulnerable adolescent girls stay in school, develop life skills, and build brighter futures. Through education sponsorship, mentorship, life skills training, and family economic empowerment, the project addresses the barriers that prevent girls from completing their education.
The project aims at sponsoring vulnerable at-risk girls and concurrently enroll their families in income-generating projects so they are able to support their girls’ education in the long-term. YFC also provide financial support to meet girls’ educational needs like school fees, uniforms, supplies, personal hygiene product and stationery. Additionally, we expand and strengthen our Dare to Dream clubs in schools acting as safe spaces reaching approximately 5000 girls while engaging in good parenting trainings, and community dialogues on the importance of girls’ education, ending child marriage, and advancing gender equality. By restoring educational opportunities for girls, the project shows how girl’s education can help address child marriage and poverty at the individual and familial level.
